Gisborne’s Patutahi heavy clay soils help develop great flavours in Gewürztraminer fruit. Coupled with a late ripening season during 2013, the fruit at harvest was deliciously lush and highly aromatic. The hand-picked fruit was gently crushed then soaked on skins for 24 hours before pressing and fermented cool. The intense floral aroma shows fresh lychee character that carries to the palate.
This wine is beautifully finished in an Alsacian style with moderate sweetness in harmony with flavour and alcohol, and with a typical spicy finish.
Grapes sourced from Patutahi, Gisborne, NZ - Single Vineyard. Made from three Portions: First pick - 24 Bx, 40% Free run, 40% Skin contact, 10% Second harvest - 26.5 Bx.
