The Family Syrah 2013

| /

Gisborne grown Syrah is beginning to create waves – the grape is quite well suited to the terroir and the number of fine examples available is only set to grow. Without a doubt – this 2013 Family Syrah is one of them. Gisborne Syrah tends to the refined rather than the blockbuster Aussie Shiraz style.

This refined example shows varietal white pepper on the nose and a heart of rich fruit from one of the best vintages our winemakers can recall. Smooth tannins balance a hearty lingering finish that together cries out for a sympathetic food match – think mushrooms and blue cheese, steak, pork-belly, pear tart ... Hand-plunged daily for five weeks then matured in French and American barrels for 18 months.
